In a commanding performance, Jamaica Women secured a resounding nine-wicket victory over Leeward Islands Women in a low-scoring encounter at the West Indies Women’s Super50 Cup in St Kitts on Wednesday.
Led by the outstanding batting of Chedean Nation, Jamaica’s bowlers set the stage for victory with a strong display. Nation, the 37-year-old discarded West Indies Women’s batsman, showcased her experience by smashing an unbeaten 61 off just 29 balls, including 14 fours. Her stellar innings guided Jamaica to successfully chase down 99 runs set by Leeward Islands.
Nation’s partnership with West Indies Women’s opener Rashada Williams, who remained unbeaten on 29, was instrumental in Jamaica’s victory, as they shared an unbroken 93-run stand for the second wicket.
Guyana Women secured a 45-run victory
Earlier in the match, Jamaica’s bowlers, Vanessa Watts and former West Indies Women’s captain Stafanie Taylor, played a pivotal role in restricting Leeward Islands to 98 runs. Watts claimed three wickets for 15 runs, while Taylor supported with three for 16 runs.
In other matches, Guyana Women secured a 45-run victory over Windward Islands Women, with Shabika Gajnabi leading the batting with 62 runs. Defending champions Barbados Women bounced back from their first-round defeat with a hard-fought five-run win against Trinidad & Tobago Women.
Kycia Knight’s exceptional batting performance guided Barbados to a respectable total of 185 runs. Despite a promising start by Trinidad & Tobago, West Indies Women’s pacer Aaliyah Alleyne and leg-spinner Keila Elliott’s late wickets sealed the victory for Barbados.
