In the opening Test at the Adelaide Oval, Joseph displayed his prowess with both bat and ball, scoring 36 runs off 41 balls and claiming an impressive 5-wicket haul. Notably, he made an immediate impact by dismissing Steve Smith with his first-ever delivery in Test cricket, setting the tone for his outstanding performance.

Continuing his stellar form into the second Test at the Gabba in Brisbane, Joseph faced adversity after being struck on the toe by a yorker from Mitchell Starc. Despite the injury, he displayed remarkable resilience and determination, returning to the field to deliver a historic performance.

Remarkable spell of bowling

In a remarkable spell of bowling on Day 4, Joseph captured 7 wickets in just 11.5 overs, guiding West Indies to their first Test match victory in Australia in 27 years and leveling the series in the process.

Miles Bascombe, Director of Cricket for Cricket West Indies (CWI), extended congratulations to Joseph on behalf of the organization, expressing optimism for his future in West Indies cricket. “On behalf of Cricket West Indies, I wish to congratulate Shamar on this award. May it be the first of many in what is hopefully a long career in maroon,” Bascombe stated.

Joseph’s recognition as the ICC Player of the Month underscores his exceptional talent and contributions to West Indies cricket, further solidifying his status as a key player in the team’s success.
