Maxwell’s record-equalling hundred secures Series win for Australia

In a dominant display of batting prowess, Glenn Maxwell’s spectacular century propelled Australia to a commanding 34-run victory over West Indies in the second Twenty20 International (T20I), clinching a decisive 2-0 lead in the three-match series held in Adelaide, Australia, on Sunday.

Maxwell’s unbeaten 120 off just 55 deliveries anchored Australia to an imposing total of 241 for four in their allotted 20 overs. His remarkable innings, which included a dozen fours and eight sixes, not only powered Australia to their highest T20 total on home soil but also saw him equal Rohit Sharma’s record for the most T20 International centuries.

Despite a valiant effort from West Indies’ captain, Rovman Powell, who top-scored with a blistering 63 off 36 balls, the visitors faltered in their run chase and could only manage 207 for nine in their 20 overs. Marcus Stoinis and Spencer Johnson led the bowling attack for Australia, claiming three and two wickets, respectively, to restrict West Indies’ batting line-up.

Australia lost early wickets but recovered well

Earlier in the match, Australia lost early wickets but recovered well with contributions from Mitchell Marsh and David Warner. However, it was Maxwell’s explosive partnership with Tim David, who remained unbeaten on 31, that propelled Australia to a formidable total.

Despite Powell’s heroics with the bat, West Indies struggled to build partnerships and lost wickets at crucial intervals, ultimately falling short in their chase.

With this victory, Australia secured an unassailable lead in the series, leaving West Indies to play for pride in the final match.
