Kieron Pollard set to assist England in Twenty20 World Cup title defense

Pollard’s role will involve sharing his extensive knowledge of Caribbean conditions and pitches with the England team, which could prove vital given the unique challenges posed by the region’s pitches in recent years.

The Caribbean is known for its low and slow pitches, and understanding these conditions will be crucial for the success of visiting teams in the tournament. Pollard’s familiarity with the region and its playing conditions makes him a valuable asset to the England think tank.

In addition to his insights into the pitches, Pollard’s experience and expertise in the T20 format will benefit the England team. He boasts an impressive record in T20 cricket, having played in 537 T20 matches, scoring over 12,000 runs, and taking more than 300 wickets. Furthermore, he has led the West Indies in 39 T20 Internationals, including the 2021 T20 World Cup victory.

Connection with current England captain Jos Buttler

Kieron Pollard’s connection with current England captain Jos Buttler, with whom he has played during his stints with county Somerset, is expected to facilitate his integration into the England management group.

Despite retiring from international cricket in April of the previous year, Pollard has continued to participate in global short-format franchise leagues, further enhancing his T20 credentials. His recent leadership of the New York Strikers to victory in the Abu Dhabi T10 is a testament to his prowess in the format.

Pollard’s appointment as a batting consultant reflects England’s commitment to strengthening their team’s chances in the upcoming Twenty20 World Cup, following their closely contested five-match T20 tour of the Caribbean where they lost 3-2 to West Indies.
