Prime Minister Holness holds high-level talks with US National Security Advisor in Washington DC

Jamaica’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness embarked on a significant working visit to the United States, during which he engaged in a high-level meeting with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.

The talks, which took place in Washington DC on Tuesday, covered a wide range of topics, from pressing issues such as crime and climate change to strategic bilateral cooperation.

Sullivan reports directly to US President Joe Biden.

Promoting inclusive economic growth and climate resilience

The White House, in a brief statement on its official website, highlighted the primary objectives of the meeting. 

The statement said that the meeting between the two officials was held to also “advance bilateral cooperation on promoting inclusive economic growth and climate resilient infrastructure”.

Combatting transnational crime and enhancing regional security

Furthermore, an integral part of the discussions was a concerted effort to combat transnational criminal organizations, and the trafficking of illicit drugs and firearms, while promoting regional security under Plan Secure Jamaica.

Acknowledging Jamaica’s leadership and support for Haiti

During their dialogue, Jake Sullivan commended Prime Minister Holness for his unwavering support for a Multinational Security Support mission to Haiti. 

Sullivan acknowledged Jamaica’s pivotal role in facilitating an inclusive political dialogue among Haitian society, promoting peace and stability in the troubled nation.

Honess’ visit, which commenced on Monday, will end on Thursday, December 7.
