Fake Tylenol detected in supermarkets across Belize

The Ministry of Health & Wellness in Belize has issued a public advisory, warning citizens about the presence of falsified Tylenol in several supermarkets throughout the country.

Investigation underway

The Ministry has initiated an investigation to identify and remove these products across the nation. The falsified product in question can be identified by its batch number, GS13790, and carries an expiration date of 03/24.

As a precautionary measure, the Ministry is urging the public to familiarize themselves with the genuine presentation of Tylenol to differentiate it from the counterfeit version.

Safety recommendations

In response to this concerning discovery, the Ministry of Health & Wellness has outlined a series of essential recommendations to protect public health:

  • Avoid consumption of counterfeit medicine: The Ministry strongly advises against purchasing or consuming this falsified medication to ensure your well-being.
  • Source medications from authorized distributors: To guarantee the authenticity and safety of the medicines you use, it is imperative to obtain them only from distributors or healthcare facilities holding valid licenses issued by the Ministry of Health & Wellness.

Merchant and wholesaler cooperation sought

Acknowledging the potential widespread presence of this counterfeit product, the Ministry is actively seeking the cooperation of all merchants and wholesalers who currently stock it. 

Be a responsible citizen

The Ministry of Health further said that if a member of the public knows someone who may be using or is in possession of this medication, they should be informed of this advisory and call 822-2325/ 828-6721 or send an email to inspectoratemohw@health.gov.
