Trinidad and Tobago faces “colossal loss” with the passing of Grenfell Kissoon

Trinidad and Tobago’s leader of the opposition, Kamla Persad-Bissessar has expressed that the passing of Grenfell Kissoon has left a void in Trinidad and Tobago and the broader Caribbean landscape.

Reports are that Kissoon died peacefully at his Chaguanas home on Wednesday.

Noted as a significant contributor to media management and human resources, his absence deeply resonates with many.

A Trailblazing career spanning four decades 

In a media release on Friday, Persad-Bissessar underscored Kissoon’s 40-year professional career through both private and state media sectors in Trinidad and Tobago, as well as the wider Caribbean realm. 

“He served as a director of the country’s largest business conglomerate, and his extensive media management career included being the General Manager of Trinidad and Tobago Television (TTT), Managing Director of the Trinidad Publishing Company (Guardian Media), Chairman of the Board at the Caribbean New Media Group (CNMG) and a director on the ANSA McAL board,” she said.

Steering companies to success and financial growth 

Beyond his roles in various esteemed media entities, Persad-Bissessar expressed that Kissoon’s influence was crucial in ensuring stability and steering companies towards commendable financial achievements.

She also mentioned his multifaceted role as a mentor, mediator, and advisor which only heightened his impact.

Contributions beyond the boardroom 

Persad-Bissessar lauded how Kissoon generously imparted his knowledge, enriching Trinidad and Tobago’s development. 

“He matched his competence and accomplishments with a genial personality, professional demeanour, and a purposeful zeal in mentoring anyone who sought his  guidance,” she said.

Persad-Bissessar poignantly concluded,“While his death is a colossal loss, we are consoled by the fact that he helped to develop a  generation of capable leaders in the various fields in which he served. Mr. Kissoon’s death  has made Trinidad and Tobago a poorer place.
