Beaches Ocho Rios to close in May 31, 2025, Sandals announces

In a heartfelt announcement, Sandals Resorts International confirmed that Beaches Ocho Rios, a beloved family-friendly resort on Jamaica’s north coast, will officially close its doors on May 31, 2025.

The closure marks the end of an era for a property that has hosted countless family vacations, first steps in the sand, and multigenerational memories. In a public statement titled “Memories Are Forever,” the company acknowledged the resort’s emotional significance to guests and team members alike.

“Beaches Ocho Rios has been a place where families laughed together… and made incredible memories,” the statement read. “It has been an honor to be part of your stories, and we know this place will always hold a special spot in your hearts—just as it does in ours.”

Unlike other properties in the Sandals and Beaches portfolio, Beaches Ocho Rios is owned by a third party, which has decided to undertake a major renovation of the resort. As a result, Sandals Resorts will no longer manage the location.

But the company is framing this as a new beginning rather than a farewell. Sandals announced a $1 billion investment in its Beaches Resorts brand, aimed at expanding luxury family travel across the Caribbean. New developments include:

  • Treasure Beach Village at Beaches Turks & Caicos, opening Spring 2026

  • Beaches Runaway Bay, another Jamaican addition to the Beaches brand

  • Beaches Barbados, marking the company’s first family resort on the island

  • Beaches Exuma in the Bahamas, offering turquoise waters and a new island adventure

While new reservations for Beaches Ocho Rios are no longer being accepted, the company assures current reservation holders that they will be contacted with exclusive options to ensure their next vacation lives up to the Beaches standard.

“We know this news may feel bittersweet,” the company said, “but the Beaches experience you trust isn’t going anywhere—it’s only getting bigger and better.”

Beaches Ocho Rios has been a staple for family vacations in Jamaica, and while it will be missed, the future promises even more destinations for unforgettable getaways.
