Despite significant changes in both teams’ rosters since their seven-game playoff showdown last season, the intensity of their rivalry remained undiminished.

Derrick White was the standout performer of the game, contributing 28 points, including five three-pointers, to the Celtics’ victory. Jaylen Brown added 27 points and six rebounds, while Jayson Tatum chipped in with 22 points. The match-up between these Eastern Conference rivals, who have clashed in the conference finals three times in the last four seasons, showcased White’s excellence in the fourth quarter, where he scored 14 crucial points.

White commented on his performance, stating, “I’ve been here a couple of years, and I know where guys are supposed to be at. I’m just trying to get people in the right spots and lead from that way.” Jayson Tatum praised White’s aggression and emphasized the team’s newfound poise in late-game situations.

Tyler Herro impressed with 28 points and five three-pointers

The game mirrored the closely contested series between the two teams last season, with neither side establishing a significant lead throughout the first three periods. Tyler Herro, who missed the conference finals due to a hand injury, impressed with 28 points and five three-pointers. Bam Adebayo contributed 27 points and seven rebounds, while Jimmy Butler struggled, finishing with 14 points on 3-of-11 shooting.

The Celtics took control in the fourth quarter, building a 109-102 lead with just over four minutes left. Derrick White’s impressive plays, including a critical block on Jimmy Butler’s dunk attempt, helped secure the win. Although Miami made a late push, cutting the lead to 114-111, White’s free throws and Jaylen Brown’s three-pointer sealed the Celtics’ victory.

The game began with the Celtics paying tribute to the victims of a recent mass shooting in Lewiston, Maine. Players wore warm-ups from their G League affiliate, the Maine Celtics, and donned a “Maine” band on their jerseys to honor the state as it copes with the tragic incident.

Next up, the Miami Heat will continue their road trip with a game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday, while the Boston Celtics will face the Washington Wizards in their next match-up on Monday.
