A 21-year-old Miami resident has pleaded guilty to a felony charge after using social media to issue violent threats against a New Jersey high school’s junior prom, federal prosecutors announced this week.
Onil Compres Rodriguez admitted in court that on April 30, 2024, he sent a series of chilling direct messages to various social media accounts, including ones associated with schools in New Jersey. The messages contained explicit threats of violence and referenced a planned attack at the school’s junior prom, scheduled for May 2, 2024.
Among the statements Compres Rodriguez sent were:
“I will kill everyone,”
“See you on May 2 at the junior prom . . . I will be charged for the damage they did to me,”
“Wear your bulletproof vests there will be a lot of blood hahaha.”
He also shared two disturbing images: one of a prom invitation and another depicting three firearms with ammunition.
The threats were promptly reported to law enforcement, triggering a multi-agency investigation. Authorities tracked the messages to Compres Rodriguez in Miami and were alerted that he had booked a flight from Miami International Airport to Newark, New Jersey—the same day as the threatened prom.
When his flight landed in Newark, law enforcement agents were waiting. Compres Rodriguez was taken into custody before he could leave the airport. He never made it to the school or the event.
He pleaded guilty this week in federal court to one count of transmitting threats through interstate communications, a charge that carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison. His sentencing is scheduled for June 25 before Senior U.S. District Judge Federico Moreno in Miami.
The case was investigated by the FBI’s Miami Field Office, with support from FBI Newark, the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office, and the Clifton Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth Hannah is prosecuting the case.
U.S. Attorney Hayden P. O’Byrne for the Southern District of Florida and Acting Special Agent in Charge Brett Skiles of FBI Miami announced the plea.
