The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has disclosed the identity of the individual who plunged into the Miami River during a boating mishap.
He is Abraham Mgowano, a resident of Berkley, California.
Reports are that he was one of 12 passengers on a 44’ cabin cruiser with one operator on Saturday before he fell overboard around 2:30 p.m.
Search efforts
The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. prompting response from Miami Fire Rescue divers.
Despite hours of intensive search efforts, 35-year-old Mgowano could not be located in the waters near NW North River Drive and NW 4th Street.
The U.S. Coast Guard joined the rescue operation but suspended their search by Saturday night.
Reports indicate that the charter boat, which set sail at 11 a.m. on Saturday, was making its way back when tragedy struck near the 5th Street bridge.
Search efforts continue
The FWC announced on Monday that its officers, in collaboration with the Miami-Dade Police Department and City of Miami Fire Rescue, have continued to dive and search the area — as Mgowano remains missing.
