Delta Air Lines reported that a passenger’s disturbance forced a flight heading to Fort Lauderdale to reroute to Atlanta on Wednesday.
The incident was confirmed by Federal Aviation Administration officials.
Reports are that the plane had left Detroit Metro Airport and was on its way to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport when the diversion occurred.
A Delta spokesperson did not provide details on the “unruly passenger” but in a statement said the airline does not accept threats or abuse toward employees or customers.
“At Delta, the safety and well-being of our customers and crew is, and will always be, our number one priority. We are in contact with our flight attendant to provide support and are cooperating with authorities in their investigation,” the statement said.
“Delta has long been a leading advocate on behalf of our people and our customers to ensure the aggressive and timely prosecution of unruly passengers,” it continued.
The incident is being investigated by the FAA.
