Keisha Schahaff, the Caribbean’s first traveler into space, made her first trip to Jamaica, where she soaked up the sun on the north coast.
Schahaff, an Antiguan, stayed at the Couples Resorts in Tower Isle earlier this month. During her brief visit to Jamaica, Keisha also gave a motivational speech to students at the Ardenne High School and made several media appearances at TVJ, CVM TV, and Irie FM.
Alexandra Ghisays, PR of Couples Resorts Tower Isle, says they were happy to host Keisha and will use her story as inspiration for children through their Issa Trust Foundation.
In August, Schahaff and her 19-year-old daughter Anastasia Mayers set a historic precedent as the first Caribbean women to venture into space.
They boarded the Galactic 02 spaceflight from Spaceport America in New Mexico on August 10. The flight, organized by Virgin Galactic, marked not only its premier private astronaut mission but also its second commercial venture to the cosmos.
After she and her daughter returned safely to Earth, the accomplishment became a moment of tremendous pride for her home nation of Antigua and Barbuda and both ladies became instant media magnets, appearing on major American and British networks to discuss the challenges and the triumphs of their extraordinary voyage.
Charles Fernandez, the Tourism Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, expressed the nation’s pride and admiration for the duo, noting their endeavor stands as a testament to the adventurous spirit of Antigua and Barbuda.
He emphasized that their journey would inspire countless individuals who harbor dreams of space travel. Moreover, it reflects the resilience and ambition of the Antiguans and Barbudans who consistently challenge and overcome limitations.
