Jamaican drowns in Cayman Islands 

A 27-year-old Jamaican man has drowned in the waters off George Town in the Cayman Islands.

He has been identified as Raheem Tyrike Barrett.

Details of the incident 

Reports are that on Sunday, October 22, the Cayman Islands Fire Service retrieved Barrett’s body, following a distress signal,

Port Authority personnel had notified emergency teams of an individual in distress in the harbor just before 11:15 p.m. the previous evening.

Another drowning incident in Cayman

This incident follows the death of a 21-year-old Jamaican who drowned in the country in September.

The victim, Rovyn Jerone Cameron, hailed from Jamaica but was residing in the Cayman Islands at the time of his death. 

Reports are that bystanders alerted emergency services at approximately on Monday evening after noticing Cameron swimming farther away from the shoreline and experiencing difficulties in the water before losing consciousness. 

It is reported that members of the public rushed to assist Cameron, pulling him out of the water and administering CPR in an effort to revive him. 

Cameron was then transported to Cayman Islands Hospital in George Town, where he was pronounced dead.
