Chang said in a statement during Tuesday’s House of Representatives session that the system would not only boost the effectiveness of Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch (PSTEB) officials by ensuring that motorists who violate the law receive the required penalty immediately, but it will also eliminate speculation of corruption and avoidance.

Chang said the tickets will be issued via a handheld device, which will also make the information promptly available to the necessary stakeholders. He also said the motorist will receive an electronic version of the ticket through email, in addition to the printout.

According to Chang, the ticket may be paid online through the Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) portal with the process ending “quickly, conveniently and non-contentiously.”

Dr. Horace Chang also mentioned that the Traffic Ticket Web lookup service, which has already been created, will allow motorists to check the status of their tickets, print their records, and utilize this to appear in court.

The minister added that the portal will also display demerit points accumulated by a driver, allowing employers to help in good road conduct by keeping track of their drivers’ behavior.
