Kingston, Jamaica – In a night steeped in celebration and reverence for athletic resilience, Jamaica’s rising star Jaydon Hibbert became the historic first recipient of the Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA) Olympic Spirit Award.
The award was bestowed during a glittering ceremony at the Terra Nova Hotel on Saturday, recognizing Hibbert’s extraordinary fortitude, perseverance, and embodiment of the Olympic ideals at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
Unyielding spirit amid adversity
Despite competing under the shadow of discomfort, Hibbert delivered an awe-inspiring performance in the men’s triple jump, missing the bronze medal by a razor-thin margin of 0.03 centimeters and securing a remarkable fourth-place finish. As the youngest competitor in his field, the 19-year-old showcased composure and determination far beyond his years.
The JOA citation hailed Hibbert as a paragon of resilience, describing him as “dauntless and with inborn patriotism.” It added: “The heart of a gladiator will always beat with the lifeblood of a champion, and Jaydon is of that mettle. In addition to this honor, Hibbert is also a nominee for the World Athletics Rising Star Award for the second consecutive year, further cementing his reputation as one of the brightest young talents in the sport.
Christopher Samuda, President of the JOA, delivered an impassioned address during the ceremony, emphasizing the significance of Hibbert’s achievement: “The award not only recognizes athletic excellence but also celebrates the spirit of perseverance and sportsmanship that transcends the playing field.”

Taking the stage to accept his award, Hibbert’s heartfelt words resonated with those in attendance: “To be recognized in this way is truly humbling.
